Matrugaya is a sacred pilgrimage to Siddhpur, Gujarat, where the ritual of Matru Shraddh is performed for the liberation (moksha) of one's departed mother and maternal ancestors. This importance stems from its spiritual significance, including the belief that it purifies the soul, removes Pitru Dosha (ancestral shortcomings), and bestows blessings, peace, and prosperity upon the family for generations. The ritual involves performing ancestral rites at the holy Bindu Sarovar, where Kapila Muni granted liberation to his mother.
Moksha for Mothers:
It is the only place where one must perform the Shraddh ceremony specifically for the liberation of one's mother.
Spiritual Purification:
The ritual is believed to bring peace to the souls of mothers and maternal ancestors, freeing them from the cycle of birth and rebirth.
Removal of Pitru Dosha:
Performing Matrugaya is thought to remove or reduce the negative effects of Pitru Dosha, an ancestral impediment that can cause issues in a family's life.
Family Well-being:
Success in this ritual brings positive energy, good fortune, improved family harmony, health, and prosperity to descendants for many generations.
Connection to Holy Sites:
The rituals are performed at Bindu Sarovar in Siddhpur, a sacred water body associated with the invisible Saraswati River, known for purifying sins.
Historical and Scriptural Basis:
The significance is supported by scriptures like the Nirnaya Sindhu and Vaman Puran, and the actions of great figures like Kapila Muni and Lord Parashuram, who performed similar rituals there.
